What is Global News ?

I had my first module today, Global News analysis. It was very interesting. I learnt what global news is. It is information that gives people knowledge they didn't have before about global issues.

I found out today who were some of the main players in this field, the key ones being mainly BBC World Service, CNN and Aljazeera.
I discovered that they all serve a purpose. They all want to the reach the widest global audience possible by being the first to break the news by using news agencies such a Reuters and AP.

They all claim to be objective but, to what extent depend on the countries they are broadcasting from and how much independence they have from their governments.

For instance CNN because it's American, its news tends to follow US foreign policy. Aljazeera because it’s based in Qatar, broadcast’s news from an Arab centric view. The BBC is the only one that is most likely to be neutral in its views as its independence from government is set in its charter, and in its agreement with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

They all fund themselves in a different way depending on their interests. The BBC by a Parliamentary grant in aid. CNN by selling advertising space and Aljazeera by being owned by the Emir of Qatar.

Therefore my initial view on global news is this, I believe that it's information that is given to the widest audience possible about something they didn't know on an international level e.g. diseases, wars, social and cultural issues.
